Julia Hayes
Southern California Native, Judge Julia Hayes earned her Juris Doctor degree from Syracuse University, College of Law. She also attended the University of California, Davis where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in English. Judge Hayes is licensed by the State Bar of Texas.
Prior to taking the bench, Judge Hayes worked as a Law Clerk with the United States Department of Education, Office for Civil Rights, Dallas, Texas. Subsequently, she started a law practice, defending criminal and family law cases. In November, 2010, Judge Hayes became the first woman to be elected to preside over Dallas County Criminal Court #2.
In 2012, Judge Hayes started a Young Adult Offenders diversion program that focuses on the advancement of education rather than conviction and incarceration. Over the years, Judge Hayes has taught numerous courses in Criminal Justice. She is the mother of one son, and a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated.
